What Causes Nausea After Smelling Food While On Antibiotics?
I am 60 and take meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol, anxiety, depression. I have been on this medication for years. My issue, is nausea. Just the smell of food, especially meat makes me sick. I have never had problems eating. I have some serious personal issues going on with my family right now. Could it be nerves? Also break out in sweats especially if stressed.
Based on the history you have shared, the smell of particular food may be unpleasant for an individual and can be a normal variant in some individuals and this doesn't need pharmacological management but behaviour modification therapies etc to gradually increase the exposure to an unpleasant thing or habit and how to modify the response towards it.
However, with the history of anxiety etc it can also be a contributing factor as with severe stress, appetite, the smell of food etc may also be disliked which otherwise had been normal before anxiety onset etc. Rarely some anxiolytics can also cause neurological side effects.

Hi, Based on the history you have shared, the smell of particular food may be unpleasant for an individual and can be a normal variant in some individuals and this doesn t need pharmacological management but behaviour modification therapies etc to gradually increase the exposure to an unpleasant thing or habit and how to modify the response towards it. However, with the history of anxiety etc it can also be a contributing factor as with severe stress, appetite, the smell of food etc may also be disliked which otherwise had been normal before anxiety onset etc. Rarely some anxiolytics can also cause neurological side effects. You need a neurologist review to check for any side effects of anxiety meds and cranial nerve examination as well as olfactory nerve examination. Sometimes supplements for zinc, vitamin A and C may be helpful for improving smell and taste sensations. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
