Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nausea After Taking Magnesium Citrate?
Had severe hot flash today followed by vomiting. Doctor said meds had caused worse than normal constipation making me sick. I did suppositories and had small tiny hard poops. Then I drank a bottle of magnesium citrate. It has been 3 hours and nothing, except I feel extremely nauseous. What should I do? in the past laxatives usually worked very quickly. Not sure what to do now.
I would advise you to take some other laxative like Senna if mag citrate is not helping. Nausea may be due to magnesium citrate which is a common side effect. In addition to taking laxatives, I would advise you to change your dietary habits and induce more fiber in your diet like bran / oats and avoid alcohol if you consume it. Also, drink plenty of fluids and eat lot of leafy vegetables and fruits.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
