What Causes Nausea After Taking Nuplazid?

My husband has experienced all of the side effects listed and it was our understanding that Nuplazid was to help with hallucinations, confusion and this indicates it can contribute to these symptoms. He has also been experiencing nausea after taking the Nuplazid which he takes after breakfast. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Most patients suffer side effects of the medications prescribed, but if you are very uncomfortable with the side effects, inform your treating doctor at the earliest.

The dose can be either reduced or the medication replaced by medicine that suits you better to control the hallucination or other motor & sensory symptoms.

Nuplazid (Pimavarserin) targets only Serotonin, hence does not worsen motor symptoms but may cause nausea while other antipsychotic medications target both dopamine & Serotonin.

Stay away from addictions & stay well hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
