Brief answer : Sialolithiasis
Hi..
Can understand your concern.
As per your complain it seems that you have blocked sub-mandibular
salivary gland duct (Sub-mandibular salivary gland is the major salivary gland located below the lower jaw one on right and one on left side).
The blockage occurs due to formation of small stones by the minerals present in the saliva. This leads to blockage of the ducts which carries saliva from the gland to the mouth.
When the duct is blocked and during eating there is increase in the flow of saliva and when the saliva is not able to flow into mouth due to blockage there is back flow of saliva into the gland leading to swelling of the gland.
I would suggest you to consult an oral pathologist and get evaluated for the exact cause of the swelling and treatment will be planned accordingly..
In case of salivary duct stone the doctor will try to locate the stone in the duct either by palpating along the tract of the duct or by taking
x rays/
sialogram /
ultrasound as per the requirement.
Treatment will depend upon size and location of the stone.
At times small stones gets expelled out by sucking citrus candies or fruits like orange and lemon as it can lead to increase in saliva flow and pressure can lead to expulsion of the stones.
Hope your query is solved..
