What Causes Nausea And Atrial Flutter After Taking Zoloft While On Lexapro?

I have taken one dose of Zoloft after being on Lexapro for over 5 years. Within 8 hours of taking the Zoloft my mouth felt like cotton(which I know can be a side effect) but then the next day I experienced moderate nausea off and on all day and heart fluttering. Ironic or likely associated? I might mention also, however, that I am only 24 hours post fever and chills(3 day stint). Poor timing for me to attempt to implement a new antidepressant but thought of that after the fact. Too funny.... just when I thought it was too good to be true that I might get free medical advice... I see it is anything but free! But nothing is now days I guess... I will continue to take advantage of what knowledge this RN has. thanks

Hi,

It is suggestive of serotonin syndrome. Based on the history, you have developed symptoms suggestive of a serious condition due to excessive accumulation of serotonin in your body apparently due to harmful interactions between the antidepressants Lexapro and Zoloft. I advise you to avoid taking new medication without consulting your doctor and visit his office if the symptoms do not subside.
