What Causes Nausea And Belching Upon Waking Up In The Morning?

What could be causing me to wake up in the morning with lots of big belching and nausea that stays with me for 4-8 hours typically and causes me to have 1 to 3 massive vomiting episodes? It has been happening infrequently, perhaps 7 mornings over 5 months but never back-to-back mornings. No one else in my family has experienced similar illness after eating the same food I have.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Based on your symptoms I would like to rule out gastritis and Hiatal hernia

Would you please clarify a few things for me?
-how old are you? What is your height and weight?
-any other medical issues or Medications?
-does the vomitus contain digested or semi digested food particles or just yellow liquid.?
-any stomach pain prior to the episodes?
-any loose stools associated with these episodes?

I recommend :
-a physician consult
-blood tests (complete blood count, liver function tests, kidney function tests, Thyroid profile)
-maintain a food diary (list out all that you ate and drank the previous two days before which you had these episodes, including alcohol, juice, salads, fish etc)
-stay well hydrated
-eat smaller but frequent (every 3 hrs except at night) meals. Chew well before swallowing.

If all these don't help in detecting and treating/avoiding the cause, a scan may required to check for Hiatal hernia and a barium meal to check for any stomach or intestinal abnormalities.

Do not take it lightly. Most commonly it is a food item which doesn't suit us.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
