Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Daughter had a colonoscopy because of severe bloody diarrhea from tainted food. After it she has had nausea. She has it on Thursday. Today she had black stools. She has been on Cipro and the doctor gave her a steroid/anti inflammatory suppository. Is getting worse?
Black stools can be due to different possible causes such as: (1) blood in stool (2)the use of iron tablets or pepto bismol
If she was having bloody diarrhea and the amount of blood (dark stool) is decreasing , then she may be able to monitor for a very short period of time If there was no previous history of bleeding then she should be seen as soon as possible.
The NSAIDS, may be aggravating the bleeding.
I hope this helps
