What Causes Nausea And Diarrhea While Suffering From IBS?

I have been previously diagnosed with irritable bowel and tend to be prone to picking up stomach viruses quite easily. Over the past month or so, I have had several bouts of diarrhea. Now I m experiencing nausea, burning and episodes of diarrhea. Should I schedule with a GI specialist or give it sometime in case its just a bug?

Hello,

The diagnosis of irritable bowel is set when other possible causes of the symptoms are ruled out.
If you are worried of parasites or other infections, especially if you live in an area that you are at risk or you have relatives with similar symptoms it would be advisable to have the tests to just rule them out and be on the safe side.

You can have stools for ova and parasites, stool antigen for giardia and stool microscopy. If the tests come out normal then you have to except that all is well and other diagnosis other then infection can be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
