What Causes Nausea And Dizziness After A Head Injury?

My husband hit his head on an open cabinet door about 1 week ago. His head had a gash that bled and it has formed a scab about 1 inch long. For the last two days he has had periods of nausea and dizziness which last about an hour or two and then he is ok. It happens right after he eats. during these periods his blood pressure is elevated somewhat (160/70) and pause is 60. he also has an ear that he thinks is closed up and hears a ringing in the ear. He has no fever. Should I take him to the ER? Safe to take him to the doctor tomorrow ??

hi there,
I am Dr Deepak, I work in Emergency Department. I see many patient with head injury. It feels warming that your are so concern about your husband. As you have told your husband had injured himself on an open cabinet about a week back. At that time he sustained a gash which bleed and then formed a scab.
And since last two days he is having dizziness and nausea which last for an hour or two and then he is okay.
Now I think your husband head injury is not the reason for dizziness and nausea. As if the head injury is supposed to be the cause of dizziness it should have started soon after the injury or at least by the same day.
As you have told he is also having ear that is closed and he is hearing ringing in the ear. This might be one of the causes for dizziness.
I would recommend steam inhalation and drinking warm water when ever he drinks water along with that few exercise recommended for vertigo, Like Epley maneuver and similar exercises. These he can try at home. If he doesn't experience any relief, then it will better option to show a ENT specialist.
Thank you,
Hope your concern was dealt with and your husband has a speedy recovery.
