What Causes Nausea And Dizziness While Treating Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Neck?

My daughter has been throwing up, is it better not to feed her anything and just liquids? She is twenty five but special needs. So.times it is hard for her to explain how she feels. The same thing happened everyday for a week and I took her to urgent care and the doctor said her lymph nodes in her neck were swollen. She gave her medicine for the nausea and sent us home. I watched her carefully and overtime she would get these episodes was right after eating a meal she would go to her room and sing. I made her stop doing that and wait for an hour after eating and she stopped throwing up. She hasn t had this problem for weeks. The doctor said she had a lot of wax buildup in her ear at the time. Could this be causing her nausea and throwing up. She says she is dizzy, but I frankly don t think she knows what dizzy means.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your daughter with special needs, throwing up after meals, dizziness, wax in ears, consulted a Doctor who gave medicines for nausea and vomiting, lymph nodes in neck swollen.
As you have mentioned the vomiting stopped after rest after foods and with medicine.
It is possible that excessive food can cause nausea and vomiting as satiety level can not be known in a patient with special needs, hence I would advise for small frequent feeds.
Also give a PPI like Omeprazole.
About the swollen lymph nodes the cause needs to be found by ultrasound and FNAC and treated accordingly as nausea and vomiting can not cause lymph node enlargement unless there was an attack of viral infection.
Consult an ENT Surgeon and get the wax removed and see if it helps in controlling few of her symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
