Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 35 year old custodian on the midnight shift. In recent weeks, I cannot do too much work or I become overheated and then feel nauseous. I thought it was just a phase and would pass, but the symptoms continue. What would cause this? My older coworker talks about menopause and hot flashes, but I don t know what to think.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It is important for you to check the temperature when you have these episodes of feeling overheat. If your armpit temperature is 38 C or above for more than 3 days than it is very likely you are having an infection and need to seek medical attention to determine the cause of it. If you temperature does not go over 37.5C than very likely the symptoms are not related to fever or infection and there are other things to consider. You might need to have a TSH test done to rule out hyperthyroidism. The doctor might also decide to do some other tests to rule out other causes of feeling hot.
If you are a female with regular menstruation every month, you do not need to worry about menopause and hot flashes, it does not seem to be your case.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
