What Causes Nausea And Numbness In Legs Post Blood Donation?
Hi....I donated blood today through a blood bank at the local school. When I was done, approximately5-8 min., I felt nauseated but more importantly, I felt both of my legs go numb. I couldn t bend them or lift them. They kept saying I was dehydrated but I had drank lots of water previously. Arms were tingling also but never went completely numb. I kept telling them I couldn t move. It was the scariest moment of my life.about 30 min. I started coming around but it took all night to start feeling a tiny bit better. What are your thoughts on this?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Nausea and numbness in the legs after blood donation can be caused by various factors such as low blood pressure, dehydration, or iron deficiency anemia. It is possible that during the blood donation process, too much blood was taken, leading to a drop in blood pressure and causing the symptoms you experienced. If the symptoms persist, I recommend seeing a doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
