What Causes Nausea And Sensitivity To Light After Head Injury?
I fell out of bed and smacked my head on the corner of my night stand 5 days ago. There s a decent bump and its been pretty painful. This morning was the first day the pain decreased some, but now I ve got major sensitivity to light. I was unable to drive for more than a few minutes with my eyes open, unable to sit in my office at work in fluorescent light, and becoming increasingly more nauseous. Should I go to the hospital? Or throw an icepack on again and try to wait it out?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You may be suffering from what is referred to as a POSTCONCUSSIVE SYNDROME which includes headaches and symptoms of migraine such as light and sound sensitivity. If you struck your head that severely that you became this symptomatic then, I would recommend seeing a neurologist or headache specialist and not ignoring the situation. You really may have suffered a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) which should then be diagnosed and managed in tandem with the post-concussive symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dariush Saghafi
