What Causes Nausea And Vomiting After A Vitrectomy?
Hello, my mother recently had a vitrectomy on July 1, 2014 for a vitreous hemorrhage in her right eye and after meeting post-op with the ophthalmologist treating her, who also performed the vitrectomy, it appeared the everything was fine. However since then she has had nausea and vomiting and she has told me that she also has a throbbing sensation in her head. We were told that she could drink and eat normally, but she has been throwing up almost everything that she has eaten. Is it normal for this to occur and is there any way to stop or lessen the vomiting?
Hello It seems from the history that your mother is having nausea and vomiting following vitrectomy surgery. This may be because of effect of anesthetic agent or because of secondary raise of intraocular pressure. Hence the treatment requires examination to find out the cause and treatment accordingly. As of now she can take antiemetic tablets, if the cause is secondary glaucoma it requires reduction of intraocular pressure by use of anti glaucoma drugs.
Thank you
