What Causes Nausea, abdominal Pain And Constipation After Removal Of Gall Bladder?

So I had my gallbladder removed about 3 months ago and I have had trouble ever since then. I have constant nausea, abdominal pain (spasms), and constipation.

I went to the gastro doctor about 2 weeks ago and did not get much help from him other than he decided to run a bunch of blood work.

I had an appointment with my primary care physician Thursday September 30, 2010 and I had a fever of 100.7 and my liver enzymes were elevated not to mention my usual extreme nausea, spasms, and constipation.

She was extremely concerned and sent me directly to the emergency room because she thouht it might have been an abscess from my gallbladder surgery. Luckily it was not an abscess. The ER doctor did notice some inflammation in the intestines but did not seem too concerned.

I had a bunch of blood work done again. My primary care physician is testing me for a variety of different viruses and my blood will be sent to the Mayo Clinic. She also wants to do an Upper GI series test.

So I guess my question is basically what is this? Or if you have any suggestions or thoughts about my current condition, that would be great.

Thanks!

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
This looks to me like so called postcholecystectomy syndrome which has all these symptoms and this occurs in about 10 percent of patients who undergo cholecystectomy, usually can be transient, and rarely persistent or lifelong.
Symptoms include systemic symptoms such as sweating and heat sense but also dyspepsia, nausea, and vomiting, flatulence, bloating, and diarrhea, Persistent pain in the upper right abdomen.
Some individuals may benefit from diet modification, such as a reduced fat diet, following cholecystectomy since it may be more difficult for digestion of fatty foods. Postcholecystectomy syndrome treatment depends on the identified violations that led to it. Typically, the patient is recommended dietary restriction table with fatty foods, enzyme preparations, antispasmodics, sometimes oral ursodeoxycholic acid can alleviate the condition.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
