What Causes Neck And Shoulder Pain After Methadone Tapering?

hi, My blood test results revealed an inflamed liver,I have had Hep C for over 20 yrs, and a high white cell count. But my question is this, I detoxed from 60mg of methadone to zero mg last month and I can actually feel my body again, I am having a hard time with pain in my left neck area down my shoulder, I tire VERY easily, just have no strength, and am on lisinipril and clonidine for my high bp, the clonidine also aided my cold turkey. Am I nearing a Heart attack? I am a 53 yr old female. Thank you in advance, Tanya

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* As per my clinical experience, the neck and shoulder pain after methadone tapering are very well known withdrawal symptoms when it is used for a long period of time.

Additional guidelines

- get regular check of your BP and keep in control

- do not opt for sharp decline of doses, rather opt for gradual based strategy over a period of time
- avoid smoking, alcohol or any other recreational drugs if consuming
- balanced nutritious diet
- multi vitamin , minerals and anti oxidant medications support great

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
