Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I don t know what to do about my neck. I feel yesterday while rollerblading and since this my neck has been giving me issues. It hurts to turn my head and lean it backwards and forwards. Its mainly on the right side of my neck from my shoulders to the base of my skull. And it hurts a lot to the touch mainly and the base of my skull. What should I do? I ve used heating pads, icing it, resting it with it being extra supported, and taken ibprophin. But nothing seems to be working. Its getting to the point to where its hard to sleep. Please help me.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You seem to have-a muscle sprain due to sudden sharp movement of neck./it could be at cervical spinal level to cause nerve pressure or pinching(confirmed after MRI of the cervical spine. You should allow rest to the neck at comfortable position.
Ice or hot pack /application of muscle relaxant ointment like Relaxil over the counter. Ibuprofen twice a day-after food, can be added. If no relief in 3 days/pain increases. Consult an orthopedic surgeon for methodical assessment & treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
