My 26 yo son has moderate to severe neck spasms and a headache that is either frontal or the back of his head, cough, had 1 insident of diarrhea. He went to the ED Wednesday, in Pensocaloa, Florida, where he had a lumbar puncture, CSF was clear, CT scan, there were labs taken all normal w/ exception of his neutrophils, eosinophils and lymphocytes were abnormal, I think 2 were high and one lower then the normal range. He was told eveything was find, by the nurse, the doctor never came in and gave him any information after all the tests. The saw my son in the treatment room waiting and said the doctor had left. My son said he was there 8 hrs. He was given a prescription of extra strength Tyenol 300 mg, which purchase at the pharmacy and he reported did nothing to help. So my son flies home for the holiday weekend to SF, CA. and feels horrible on Friday. He calls me at work and said his headache was so painful he can barley stand up. I took him to the hospital. A PA saw him and did not have any of the tests results even though my signed a release form. The PA felt he had a virus, since he was the 6th pt she saw today w/ the same symtoms of head ache neck ache, cough, and diarrhea (X1). She prescribed 5mg Diazepam and a 30mg injection of Toradol. My son felt a little better, feels ok when he is supine, with cold and hot pack each on and off every 20 min or so. Once he sits up the neck and heache comes back. I think his lymph glands are also sore from where he tells me the pain is located. I am concerned if he should fly back to Pensocola Monday? He a temporary job there. He works as a project engineer and spent the last month in the office as an office engineer, so no outside issues that he can think of. Does the PA have it right? He has a new a health care plan Signa PPO, signed up w/ a PCP, who he never needed to see. He been under my Kaiser plan since he was born, so we are so use to Kaiser, where you can go to urgent care or call the advice RN. He is new w/ this plan and has no PCP. Thanks, concerned mom
