What Causes Night Sweats And Heart Palpitations During Menopause?

I take two blood pressure medicines both extended release... Metroprolol and Isosorbide for high blood pressure. I wake up every night with profuse sweating and a rapid heartbeat. I also take Synthroid because my thyroid does not produce enough on its own. Can you advise why I may be waking up with night sweating and rapid heartbeat? I am a menopausal woman and have not had periods for over 12 years.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to menopause.

Night sweat is common symptoms of menopause.

I suggest sleeping in a cool environment with light, breathable, non-synthetic nightclothes and sheets.

I recommend avoiding over bundling or using a heavy comforter.

I also suggest avoiding alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods.

If the symptoms continue I suggest consulting a gynecologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
