About 3 months ago a traumatic event happened to me. Just recently I am getting nightmares, some are related to the event and some are not. I don t sleep good anymore. I can t stop thinking about the event and can t even go downstairs without a knife in my hand cause I m son afraid. I m always on edge and jumpy. What s wrong with me?
PTSD generally happens within 3 months of a stressful event and causes patients to have flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, etc.
Psychotherapy (talk-therapy) may help the patient express their fears and address them. Also, drugs such as SSRI (sertraline or escitalopram) may be used to help control anxiety.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
