Hello,
Nightmares is a rare side effects of simvastatine in sensitive patients. This symptom should be recognised by the treating doctor since it is easily corrected by stopping the statin.
At the other side, statins can cause ocular adverse events like
blurred vision and
visual impairment. Your episodes of zig zag lines in vision and headache can be associated with rosuvastatin but also can be symptoms of an acular migraine.
For instance, if you have a history of
heart attack or stroke, it's not recommended that you stop taking your rosuvastatin. My advice is to insist with your statin for another couple of days and to to see if the symptoms persist and to confirm that the symptoms are caused by this medication.
If the symptoms persist, your treating doctor should change your treatment plan to correct high
cholesterol and triglycerides with lifestyle changes, a low fat diet and (if necessary considering your medical history) another statin.
But if the symptoms persist even if you stop your rosuvastatin, then you should
consult a neurologist to find out if you have
ocular migraine and to rule out other conditions that can cause similar symptoms. Yes, you can take 500 mg paracetamol for the headache.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo, Endocrinologist
