Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nightmares, Muscle Spasms, Swollen Throat And Cough While On M-Eslon?
My husband is on M-ELSON capsules 10mg SR Two twice daily. He had a lymph node and part of a vein removed in his neck for a biopsy on the 8th September and he has had swelling and severe pain after the operation so they put him on the morphine. He is now having nightmares, muscle spasms through the night and today he feels like he has swelling in his throat which is making it hard to swallow. He has also developed a cough. Could this medication be causing these symptoms.
If your husband is having lightheadedness, dizziness, muscle spasms, nightmares or hallucinations; you should report to the treating surgeon, it could be due to the side effects or allergic reaction to morphine.
Swelling in the throat is indicative of inflammation or infection. He may need antibiotics intravenously.
There are many other pain killers, talk to the treating surgeon so that the medication can be replaced by another that suits him better.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
