What Causes Nightmares While On Trazadone?

My father was started on Trazadone 50 mg to help him sleep at night but I noticed he has alot of dreams while on it and has only been on it for 1 week. He is 89 years of age who had a stroke 9 years ago . He was initially on Remeron for 9 years but it does not seem to be helping him. should I attempt to decrease his dose to 25 mg to see if he does not feel so sedated?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Trazadone is somewhat sedative medicine use for reduce brain activity. But it is unusual to have dreams as a side effect. if he is having some drug overdose he may develop some confusion or dizziness instead of dreams.
(150 mg orally per day is the usual drug dose for a patient)

My opinions are,
he may not respond or poorly responded to Trazadone
or
he may need some dose increment after seen by a physician.
So better to consult your physician before doing anything as patient has to be assess thoroughly before dose adgesment.
Remember to work carefully with antipsychotic drugs like Trazadone.
