What Causes Nipple Discharge And Breast Enlargement While On Synthroid?

hi, I m a 39 year old woman. I m not pregnant. I m on synthroid for hypothyroid and levels are normal. I had nipple discharge from my left breast and went to get an exam. Doctor said normal. Prolactin levels normal. I m also on Ritalin. My breasts sometimes feel so engorged like l m breastfeeding (I have three kids). The color of the discharge seems white-milky but may even be puss, I don t know, I m worried because now both breasts will produce this when squeezed

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is not related to synthroid. Possible causes like hyperprolactinemia (excess prolactin) must be ruled out. Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. An ultrasound breast is also required to rule out conditions like galactocele.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
