What Causes Nipple Discharge And Nausea While On Depo Shots?

I have had two depo shots, the first in February and the second in May. My last period was in March. My breasts have been leaking what looks colostrum. I have two negative pregnancy tests but I still feel pregnant, always tired leaking breasts and nausea. What is going on with my body? Could I still be pregnant?

Thank you for your question. Depo-Provera is the brand name of the drug medroxyprogesterone, which is an injection used to prevent pregnancy. Depo shot is in a class of drugs known as progestins.

It is possible to lactate when you are not pregnant. Lots of drugs, including Depo-Provera, may occasionally lead to a milky discharge from the nipple. The technical name for this phenomenon is galactorrhoea. The milk production usually occurs with a cessation of periods. But very rarely to have a situation of stimulation of the breast tissue by over activity of the pituitary gland, the adrenal glands or the thyroid. It is serious side effects of Depo shot with nausea and vomiting.

If your have a persistent severe nausea and vomiting and spontaneous milky discharge from one or both of your breasts and you're not pregnant, make an appointment to see your doctor.
