Even though you are only 8 months pregnant, in some women, the milk ducts develop and even sometimes the breasts make milk even before the birth. Your breasts and nipples may get more sore as you get closer to your due date. Rubbing of your bra on your nipple can irritate it as well. Nursing mothers can get thrush, which is a fungal infection of the nipples from nursing, but that would be unusual if you are not nursing.
I suggest you put a warm wet cloth on your nipple for 10 minutes a couple times a day, put something soft (like cotton) over your nipple inside your bra and apply a moisturizing cream or petroleum jelly on it after bathing. You should also show you nipple to your doctor at your next OB appointment and he/she likely will be able to make an accurate diagnosis.
I hope this information was helpful and you feel better. Best of luck with your pregnancy, Dr. Brown
