What Causes Normal Systolic But Low Diastolic Blood Pressure?

Hi, my father is 76 years old. His blood preassure has been high so have been taken it 2 times a day. He took it right now and it is 114/48 the high is ok but the low is too low, what should we do. He has had a very long day and he was feeling a little dizzy. Please advise what is bet to do. Thanks.

Hi There

I understand your concern for your father, if he is taking any medicines to lower his blood pressure tell him to reduce the dose to half and keep monitoring the bp if it stays below 140/90 then continue with low dose of medicine. And if his lower bp constantly stays low then ill advise to get a echocardiography done to rule out any valvular leakages esp. Aortic Regurgitation.
And whenever below is too low and he feels dizzy he can take a bit of extra salt in diet and I crease the amount of water intake he will be fine.
