Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nosebleeds With Ear Infection Post Tonsillectomy?
Hello, my grandson just had tonsillectomy 3 weeks ago and last week he developed a bad cold and ear infection. I took him to urgent care and they prescribed an antibiotic. Now his nose is bleeding. Should I take him to emergency room? or is there something I should be doing.
Nose bleeds in young boys are very common especially in the terrain of a viral infection and nose congestion. It is generally not worrisome and is self-limiting. You will have to have him checked if this lasts more than a week or if the bleeding is difficult to control by pressing the nostrils for 15 minutes (press non-stop and do not check in between if the blood stopped). Also, if he has skin bruises, bleeding gums or blood in urine or stools, he needs a check with the doctor to identify the cause of these.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
