Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 yr old daughter has been waking up with her lips very swollen. They are numb to the touch. The swelling goes down during the day. The outside of her mouth can be itchy. She says it feels like a bad case of chapped lips, but the swelling is a concern.
Thanks for your query .The swelling and numbness in lips is most probably caused by allergic reaction due to any food or chemical or due to insect bite.Ther can be other reasons also like poor blood supply ,mineral deficiency and some underlying disease like diabetes or autoimmune disease.
I would suggest you to apply cold compresses ,apply tea tree oil or tea bags and take over the counter antihistamine like benadryl for allergic reaction.
If condition doesn't get better then you should consult dermatologist for proper examination and to rule out other cause like some underlying disease as I mention above .
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
