What Causes Numbing Pain Radiating From The Lower Back To The Legs?

A couple of days ago I had lower back pain, which I occasionally get, but this time suddenly I also got a lot of pain from the front of my leg (quads) down to the knee. The pain is still there, but now the greatest pain is in the knee, and it is feeling increasingly numb as well.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I read your problem. Sometimes the low back pain radiate upto thigh knee and toe due to the nerve compression. There are many causes of nerve compression of lumbar spine which leads to tingling, numbness and pain over whole lower limb. Some causes are PIVD, Sciatica is a nerve and when its compresses the numbness tingling and pain radiates upto buttocks, thighs, legs, and feet. Lumbar spondylysis, spine fracture, vitamin and minerals deficiency as vit B 12 deficiency and methycobalamine, lumbar degenerative disc disease, back muscle strain or ligament injury or sprain, weight lifting, sitting on same direction for long time, muscle spasm.

It seems to me that there is nerve compression over L4 L5 or S1 spine which cause the pain is radiating upto front of thigh or leg pain with numbness. To rule out the cause get some blood test x-ray and MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ankur
