What Causes Numbness After Colostomy?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... My Mother has has several surgeries in the stomach area, she has had a colostomy which was reversed, and part of her small intestine removed, she is 84 years old, she has been to her surgeon on several different occassions and his answer for her problem every time she has one , that it's a stitch and he will schedule an appt to numb the area and take out the stitch. Is this normal for this to be his answer everytime

hello basically what happens that the nerves in the abdominal wall are arranged in an oblique manner sandwiched between two sublayers of the wall and when a procedure which involves a midline or a paramedian incision is given suggesting an extensive procedure, some of these nerves get either cut or exposed. and when a procedure like reversal of colostomy is done (meaning the two exposed ends of the gut are down back and returned into the abdomen) there are chances that these nerves get compressed while applying stitches giving rise to symptoms like numbness and parasthesia. it only happens in a few cases and not all and its not a major issue to say the least.
