What Causes Numbness And Swelling On Tongue After Using Oraldene Mouthwash?

I have been using Oraldene mouthwash for a couple of days. Just this evening my tongue is numb and suddenly looks swollen. I have read that the numbness is a possible side effect. Should I see a doctor right away? Is there anything I can do at home to relieve the symptoms? Should I be concerned if I go to sleep that I will have a more severe reaction whilst sleeping?

hello and welcome to health care magic,

you may have developed an allergic reaction to the mouth wash or it could be to any other cause.

In any case take an antihistamine like levocetrizine in consultation with your doctor and stop the mouth wash immediately. It should get better with this in a couple of days. If you are otherwise normal that is you do not have any breathing difficulty then you have nothing to worry about and you can sleep peacefully.

If however your symptoms or tongue swelling worsens or does not improve then you can consult an ENT surgeon

get well soon
