What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Lower Body While Sitting Cross-legged Post C-section?

Hello! 3 years ago I had my 4th c-section. After I noticed numbing/tingling in my entire lower body while sitting cross-legged (Indian style). Hasn t bothered any of my day-to-day activities until recently. Lately when I bend over or sit for a while it goes numb again...do I need to see a doctor? What could be the reason for this?

Hi,

Numbness and tingling in the lower body while sitting cross-legged after a cesarean section (C-section) can be caused by compression of the nerves in the legs. This is more common in women who have had a C-section because the abdominal incision can cause nerve damage, making the portions more susceptible to nerve compression.

Sitting in a cross-legged position puts pressure on the nerves in the legs, which can cause numbness and tingling. It is best to avoid sitting in this position and to consult your doctor if you are experiencing these symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
