What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In Hip And Pelvis?

I am a 52 yo female, (diabetic, on bp, cholesterol & thyroid meds). For 2 weeks I have had numbness, tingling sensation, burning on my right side midsection. Shingles, I thought, but I never broke out with a rash. That numbness continues on my midsection, but now includes my right hip pelvic area and thigh. is that normal for shingles, or is this something else? Might this be a symptom of MS? 12 or so years ago I was diagnosed with MS (due to MRI of head & a spinal tap) but wasn t having clinical symptoms so my treatment was stopped. I am not currently seeing a neurologist for this. Don t know what to think. Help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The numbness and tingling over one hemi section of pelvis and hips indicates VZV (varicella zoster virus) infection, which can show up via absence of rashes in many of the cases, particularly during the period in which the previous virus remain dormant in the ganglia of pelvis. However, a detailed physical examination, previous history of herpes infection, other viremic features of prodrome as malaise, fatigue or low grade fever can be helpful co relation to comment further.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
