What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Forearm While On Gabapentin?

My wife, 64 years old, has been taking Gabapenton, 300mgm q12 hrs, for 2 weeks for residual numbness and tingling along the ulnar nerve distribution of her forearm, hand, and little and ring fingers. For the last week she has experienced feelings of impending doom, depression, and crying for no apparent reason. She tried to reduce dosage to only once a day, but after 15-16 hrs the above symptoms increase in severity. Any suggestions as to how she may discontinue this medication. Marc Leventhal. E-mail. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to conditions like peripheral neuropathy.
Consult a neurologist and get evaluated.
Detailed evaluation is required including nerve conduction study is required to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
