What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Leg After An Injury?

Two weeks ago I was in a snowmobile accident where I was thrown from my sled. I hit me left leg on something, not sure what, and had immediate severe swelling. I was able to ride back home where I immediately iced and elevated for the rest of the night. By morning the swelling had decreased by half but I was in a lot of pain so I went to a local convenient care where they did an X-ray. They did not find a fracture so concluded with a bad contusion. Two weeks later a still have a large lump about the size of a baseball on my shin, some swelling, and bruising down my entire shine as well as around my ankle and side of my foot. Tonight I am experiencing numbness, tingling and the feeling of being cold in that foot. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems the fall had resulted in the lump. Probably a hematoma./in noted fracture segments.

Causing pressure on nerve supplying foot which gives a feeling of numbness &cold to the foot.

A. MRI would confirm the site of compression, the type of compressing mass its size & nature.

Which would decide the exact management programme? Please consult an orthopaedic surgeon. Till then avoid movements, do not massage or foment the lump.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
