What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Leg Post Knee Replacement?

I had a knee replacement in my left leg 8 months ago.I have numbness and tingling in this leg every day. In addition my right knee wants to colapse when I walk. Do these symptoms have any thing to do with the drug Crestor I taking along with the new drug Elloquis? Can I expect the numbness to finally go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Tingling and numbness in leg indicates peripheral nerve injury mostly during surgery for knee replacement. This is very common after surgery. Other causes of peripheral nerve damage can be diabetes, chronic kidney disease, leprosy, vertebral compression, vasculitis and hypothyroidism etc. Crestor and Elloquis do not cause tingling and numbness. So continue taking these medicines as suggested by your doctor. Recovery is unpredictable and it depends upon severity of injury. Mild injury usually recovers. Severe injury may not recover. But it is unpredictable. Methylcobalamin might help you.
Advice
1.     Take rest
2.     Avoid strenuous activity
3.     Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months
4.     Gabapentin 100 mg thrice daily per oral for 10 days
5.     Consult a physiotherapist. Physiotherapist will suggest exercise for relieving such pain
6.     Investigation –blood sugar (F & PP), serum creatinine
Thanks
