What Causes Numbness In Ankle After Twisting It?

I woke up on Saturday morning and my leg was asleep. I had to use the restroom pretty badly and i didn t wait for my leg to wake up, I tried to walk and I twisted my ankle. It didn t hurt, it still doesn;t but I cannot feel anything in my left foot or ankle and it is very hard for me to walk. Could I have damaged the nerve?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a pinched nerve. I suggest using cold compresses for local application at the ankle area.

I also suggest maintaining the ankle immobilized to prevent further damage.

I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain. The symptoms usually relieve on it's own.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
