What Causes Numbness In Arm Along With Rapid Heart Rate On Smoking Marijuana?

About 3 years ago, I smoked Spice and ended up almost having a heart attack. I had already smoked it for about two years prior, and one day I just got ahold of another strand of spice and smoked it and my heart beat incredibly fast and my chest was rising. I thought I was going to die. Months later, I went to the hospital about 10 different times with a random racing or very sore heart. Also, My arm left arm would get numb along with left side of neck. I did try spice one more time, shortly after the first incident, and it did the same thing again. After exiting the military, I smoked a little weed for about a month and felt fine. One day, I decided to smoke some weed, and I got the same pain and felt like I was going to die again and even called an ambulance. I now get heart pain anytime im even around weed, but I stopped smoking 100%. Is there any tips or reason for this? Whn going to the hospital a few times, they did say I have a sinus arythmia and I even wore a heart monitor for 3 weeks and the worst they saw was a close to 3 second pause. Any feedback would be great, thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Smoking marijuana may be triggering an abnormal heart rhythm, which could cause the symptoms you are experiencing, such as rapid heart rate and chest pain. Marijuana use has been linked to an increased risk of heart problems, including heart attacks and arrhythmias, especially in people who already have underlying heart conditions. It is also possible that the numbness in your arm is related to nerve compression or irritation in the neck or shoulder, which can also cause chest pain and heart palpitations.

Your physician may recommend further testing, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or cardiac imaging, to evaluate your heart function and rule out any underlying conditions. It's also important to avoid smoking marijuana or using any other substances that could potentially trigger your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
