Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness In Both The Feet After Lumbar Surgeries Which Failed?
I have had 5 failed lumbar surgeries (micro discectomies at L4-5 and L5-S1) and see a pain-management specialist monthly for medications. He has diagnosed me with failed back surgery syndrome and arachnoiditis. I take from 580 mg to 870 mg of morphine sulfate every 24 hours and have done so for the past 5-6 years. This manages my pain acceptably and enables me to continue working very long hours as an attorney. Here is my question: in the last 8-10 months, both feet from my ankles to my toes have gone numb--at first just occasionally, but now 24/7--and my lower legs and feet--especially my left one--are perpetually swollen. What is likely to have caused this?
As per your description, it looks you have many failed surgeries in the lumbar region. I think it's degenerative disc plus some disc herniation may be there.
After too many surgeries and you are already taking morphine. I would not suggest any other modalities. Probably take rest and have a regular diet. hope for the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
