What Causes Numbness In Chest With The History Of Bypass Surgery?

I have numbness in my chest after sitting for awhile. Had bypass surgery 20 years ago. Went to emergency room 3 days ago and had xray, 3 blood test and 3 ekg with negative results of heart attack. I also have soarness under lower rib cage while sitting. Have an echo and stress test scheduled for later this week. Your thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The numbness in chest is related to previous sternotomy done for the bypass surgery, during which ample number of nerves are cauterised with machine. Nothing turns out in this instance by echo or other relevant investigations, however, a clinical examination is must for further comments ahead.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
