What Causes Numbness In Fingers Along With Loss Of Strength In Hands?

I have been bothered with carpal tunnel for over 15 years. I don t do any repetitive work. In the last couple of weeks, I have had continuous numbness in my middle finger, some numbness in my index finger & thumb. I have worn hand splints at night---not much help. I ve taken advil in the morning and at night. I feel like I m losing feeling and grip. Should I make an appointment to see a hand surgeon soon?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I understand your concern.
Yes should visit the orthopedic surgeon. The numbness and tingling has increased and now you are losing grip. The surgeon will examine you situation accordingly you may be advised for surgery. This surgery will release the tunnel from which the nerves and tendons pass under your wrist.
Meanwhile continue to splints on hand and give rest to it. Meanwhile you may take aceclofenac+paracetamol combination twice daily for 5 days. This will reduce pain and stiffness.
But you should visit the surgeon first.
