What Causes Numbness In Hands After Consuming Caffeine While On Desiccated Thyroid?

Hello, I was on Synthroid a couple of years back and decided to switch to desiccated thyroid because I had heard that Synthroid could cause bone cancer. About 8-9 months ago, my dose was increased to 120 mg and I started having anxiety problems. Didn t clue in it may be my thyroid medication. About 10 days ago I was increased to 5 x 30 mg of desiccated thyroid and I can no longer drink caffeinated coffee- I get dizzy like a wave is coming over me... I should also mention that my lips and hand would go numb too... Does caffeine affect this medicine?? Thank you for your help

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is not related to caffeine. Consult a physician and get evaluated. Check your blood calcium level as low calcium (hypocalcemia) can give rise to similar symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
