What Causes Numbness In Hands And Legs After A Thyroidectomy?
hi doctor, my mum had total thyroidectomy 5 days ago. yesterday she had numbness for both hands and legs and she got tetany.she went to the hospital and they gave her calcium and put her in ICU . today she had slurred speech but the CT scan for brain is normal and i m so confused is it normal or something else need to do. thanks
I have gone through your question and it seems that her symptoms were due to impending tetany which has now been corrected. The residual slurring etc may last for a few days, so do not worry now. This can happen after total thyroidectomy due to hormonal changes in the body.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Gopal Goel,
Orthopedic Surgeon
