What Causes Numbness In Head After A Head Injury?

Yesterday morning I ran into a door and hit my far right forehead in the hairline causing a nice bump and slight cut. Caused a headache, very slight dizziness, and numbness/tingling. Went to minor injury and neurolgically every thing looked fine. Just told to watch for new symptoms and that the numbness was probably from the swelling. Well today swelling is almost all the way down but the numbness is still there in a span of space of my whole hand with fingers spread. If I scratch there it feels like a numb lip after dental work. Is this common after head injury and how long can it last?

Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J.Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas. I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help you.

Numbness after a head injury is usually due to
1. Damage to nerves
2. Edema compressing the nerves

In case of former, it can lost for few months and can get resolved by the year
In case of latter, it lasts for few weeks and gets resolved by a month

Hope you found the answer helpful.
