Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness In Legs And Low Grade Fever In Children?
my nine year old has low grade fever but said she couldnt feel her legs and back today at school. She said they hurt but she couldnt feel them so not sure which one it is but she has never complained of that before. Does that sounds like anything serious or a common virus going around right now?
Numbness in legs might be due to the low grade fever she had but there are other causes too like the following: 1) Peripheral neuropathy 2) Neuromuscular junction disorders like myasthenia gravis 3) Guillaine Barre syndrome 4) Postural like sitting crossed legs for longer period of time 5) Stroke 6) Toxins affecting neuromuscular junction
My intention is not to apprehend you. Those are probable causes but in your child's case, it was only momentary and did not last long so, it doesn't bear significance. Just relax and give tab. Acetaminophen for fever.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
