What Causes Numbness In Rib Cage?

I have numbness in an area around my rib age. It s been there for many years, I attribute it to when I was carrying my last child. Her toes dug into my rib cage for several months. I have been able to live quite comfortably with this numbness for 14 years however now I am experiencing some pain. I ve recently been going to the gym quite frequently, something I haven t done for several years and now there is pain in the area of my rib cage As well as the numbness I experienced before. Is this something I should have checked out?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

This may be due to neuropathy. It is unlikely it is related to the baby kicking when you were pregnant. Varicella-zoster may cause changes in sensation on the skin after the infection heals. Also, vitamin B12 deficiency may need to be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
