Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness In Right Leg, Ankle And Foot?
I have numbness in my right leg lower leg down to my toes. I am unable to raise my right foot upward or move my toes. When I walk I bend my knee more to compensate for the inability to control my foot or toes. One week ago, I had a pain on the outside of leg just below the knee. I thought it was old man stuff and expected it to go away in a few days as most of my aches and pains do. Now the pain is not as bad, but the numbness in my ankle, foot and toes has me concerned. What do you think?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Numbness of leg, ankle and foot is suggestive of a nerve related disorder. Nerve injury, inflammation of nerve, irritation of nerve can lead to numbness. Inability to raise foot or toes can be due to nerve related disorder or muscle related disorder. However, an association with numbness increases the possibility of nerve related disorder. Nerve conduction study is required to assess the functioning of nerves and thus its management. In addition, assessment of the spinal cord is also required since compression of nerves in spinal canal is common and is responsible for similar symptoms. Thus, I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
