What Causes Numbness In The Arms And Fingers Of A Swimmer?

My 16 year old daughter is having numbness and electric shocks in her arms & fingers when she rolls her shoulders. She is a competitive swimmer and this started during high school season. MRI, X-rays, PT, Chiropractic, etc. has not resulted in any relief. Thoracic Outlet syndrome has been tested for and came up negative.

hi,

thank you for providing the brief history of your daughter. Since you mentioned about the numbness in the arms and fingers , also pain in the category of electric shocks, a thorough neurological assessment is needed. Also, you have mentioned that an MRI was performed by of which region and what is the report is not mentioned. It can be suspected that the MRI was taken of the cervical spine as you mentioned about Chiropractic and PT.

Also to under stand here, that the mechanics of swimming is a different process to understand. Performing the special test and thorough assessment will help to understand the muscle and the joints along with the nerves.

Based on the muscular symptoms, the exercises will be guided and made perform. As she is a swimmer and aged 16 years, the muscle anatomy and the bone anatomy is needed to be described after the assessment. If she is a hardcore swimmer or a regular swimmer than the muscular system has to be assessed like the sports individual for which the traditional treatments of PT and chiropractic may not be successful. A specially designed protocol is needed to look further into the matter.

If you can provide some more details, i can help understand the causing factor and also the rehabilitation protocol,

Regards
