What Causes Numbness In The Face And Neck After Taking Amiodarone?

I started feeling a numbness in my neck and face after I took amiodarone for about 3 weeks. I took 200mg for 2 weeks and then 100. Before that I took Multaq 400 1 a day and was doing alright, but it was too expensive. I was diagnosed with a-fib in July, 2017. Started Multaq 400 2 a day and had this same numbness- went to 1 a day and didn t have the numbness. But it was so expensive was switched to amiodarone. I also take toprol xl 25mg 1/2 a tab a day. Is there another medicine I could try for a-fib? I also take eloquis 2 a day. I do not take any other prescription. I am 77 -female.

Hello,

Amiodarone might not because of numbness as it has very little chance of side effects. As you got symptoms suddenly, it is not due to any chronic disease (autoimmune disease or infections). Other causes may be due to nerve compression or alcohol or any toxins or acute infection or vitamin deficiency. As you are not having fever, the infection can be ruled out. You can go for following investigations
1. Complete blood count
2. Nerve conduction tests
Most probably it can nerve compression or vitamin deficiency. You can follow the below things:
1. Take care of food and
2. Start B complex vitamins. ( Vit B12)
3. Physiotherapy will help
